The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has pledged to provide free legal representation to protesters facing prosecution for their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
NBA President, Afam Osigwe, announced the launch of a pro bono legal support program aimed at ensuring fair treatment for protesters within the criminal justice system. He made this known through a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, stating that the NBA would closely monitor the ongoing arraignments of the detained protesters.
Nine protesters involved in the #EndBadGovernance movement have been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre on charges of treason, while the only female protester was ordered to be held at the Suleja Correctional Facility.
The protests, which took place between August 1 and 10, 2024, drew thousands of participants who rallied against hunger and poor governance in the country.
