Maiduguri, Nigeria — Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has firmly denied recent speculation linking him and five other governors to an alleged defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The clarification came through a statement issued in Maiduguri by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Dauda Iliya, who dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated fabrications.
“We are aware of a fictitious report circulating online, falsely alleging that Governor Zulum and other governors plan to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ADC,” Iliya stated. “This claim is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of those seeking cheap political relevance.”
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC and stressed his commitment to the progress of Borno State. “My dedication is to the people of Borno and the ideals of our great party. We are focused on the urgent task of rebuilding our state, not political distractions,” he said.
He urged members of the public and the media to verify information through credible channels, cautioning against the spread of falsehoods.
“These are deliberate efforts by detractors to sow division and tension. I remain fully committed to serving under the APC platform and advancing the development of our state,” Zulum concluded.
The statement served as a call for political maturity and responsible reporting, reinforcing Zulum’s position as a key stakeholder in Nigeria’s ruling party.
