Gusau, Nigeria — The Zamfara State government has initiated a workshop on Digital Skills Manual Development under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, aimed at equipping students, particularly girls, with essential digital literacy skills.
The workshop, organized by the Zamfara College of Arts and Science (ZACAS) Consultancy Services Unit in collaboration with AGILE, seeks to develop a comprehensive digital curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools in the state.
Empowering Students for the Digital Age
Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Malam Wadato Madawaki, described the initiative as a major step towards transforming education and empowering students, particularly girls, with the necessary skills to excel in the digital era.
“With technology shaping governance, commerce, agriculture, and education, it is crucial to equip students and teachers with the knowledge to navigate this digital landscape,” Madawaki stated.
He commended AGILE, ZACAS Consultancy Services Unit, and other stakeholders for their commitment to developing a robust digital curriculum, emphasizing that the resource would help learners prepare for 21st-century challenges and opportunities.
The commissioner reiterated the Zamfara State government’s commitment to integrating technology-driven learning into schools and colleges, recognizing digital skills as a key driver of national development.
“The future belongs to those who possess the right knowledge and skills. This initiative lays a strong foundation for students to achieve greatness,” he added.
To further strengthen digital education, Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the upgrade of three schools in each of the state’s three senatorial zones.
A Pathway to Lifelong Learning
Speaking at the event, Zamfara State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau, highlighted the project’s goal of equipping students with foundational and advanced digital skills to enhance learning, improve career prospects, and foster innovation.
“The structured and inclusive curriculum we are developing will guide digital literacy training across our intervention schools, ensuring relevance and accessibility,” she stated.
She further emphasized that the initiative aims to create a pathway for lifelong learning and self-reliance through technology, ensuring that students are prepared for the digital economy.
