Abuja, Nigeria — The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has elected Hon. Robert Madaki as its chairmanship candidate for the 2026 Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) elections.
The announcement was made during the party’s primary election held in Abuja on Monday, where 10 councillorship candidates also emerged to represent the party across various wards in AMAC. The exercise was conducted using the Option A4 voting system and was duly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Madaki secured a decisive win, polling 42 out of 46 delegate votes to defeat his only rival, Mazi Onyeabo Anagwu-Nnodu, who received four votes.
In his post-election remarks, Madaki reaffirmed his commitment to restoring grassroots governance and accountability in AMAC, stressing that the current leadership had failed to directly engage with the people. “There is no grassroots governance in AMAC today. The administration is not visible to the people,” he stated.
Madaki, who revealed that he has spent over two decades preparing for public service, expressed confidence in the YPP’s chances in the February 2026 elections. “We’ve done a lot of groundwork, and the YPP is ready to win,” he added.
The newly elected councillorship candidates include David Ibukun Ojo (City Centre), Wilfred Agberagba (Garki), Sonia Atabe (Gwarinpa), Adegbe George Ibrahim (Gui), Michael Onyekachi Nwachukwu (Jiwa), Jimoh Dogo (Nyanya), Francis Idhe (Karu), Joshua Chinuogu Chukwuma (Wuse), Ezekiel Ejembi (Kabusa), and Ogbebor Airenomonobiowan (Orozo).
Speaking at the event, the returning officer, Williams Moses, confirmed the legitimacy of the exercise and presented Certificates of Return to all candidates. He commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the primaries.
Meanwhile, the FCT Chairman of YPP, Adedotun Abraham, appreciated INEC for its oversight role and emphasized the party’s commitment to credible leadership and internal democracy.
