Rabat, Morocco — The Yobe State Government has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Moroccan government to advance agricultural development and enhance local governance.
The initiative was formalized during a visit by a Yobe State delegation to Rabat, Morocco, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali.
Facilitated through the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA), the partnership focuses on securing financial support for local development projects in Yobe. During the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions with UCLGA Secretary General, Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, on funding strategies tailored to the state’s developmental priorities.
According to a statement issued by the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, the financing model will be implemented under the African Forum for Decentralised Cooperation (FACDI).
The funding structure allocates 60% of financial support from FACDI, 20% from the Moroccan government, and 10% in-kind contributions from benefiting local governments in Yobe State, including the provision of land.
Mbassi underscored the significance of this collaboration, noting that local governments can utilize the initiative to tackle pressing environmental concerns such as climate change, desertification, and flooding.
Speaking on behalf of the state, Baba Malam Wali highlighted plans to enhance workforce capacity through the College of Administration, Management, and Technology (CAMTEC) in Potiskum, ensuring that local government staff receive specialized training to maximize the benefits of the partnership.
Further reinforcing the objectives, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, emphasized that the initiative seeks to empower local councils, strengthen administrative efficiency, and improve service delivery to the people of Yobe State.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of Yobe State’s commitment to leveraging international collaborations for sustainable growth and agricultural transformation.
