Washington, D.C. — Former US President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could take control of Gaza, a proposal that has sparked widespread controversy.
Speaking at a joint White House press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump floated the idea as an alternative to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas. His remarks come amid an intensifying ceasefire debate.
Trump outlined his vision, suggesting that the US could clear unexploded munitions from Gaza and spearhead economic development efforts. He further proposed that Palestinians be relocated outside Gaza while the region undergoes reconstruction, a suggestion that has already been dismissed by several Middle Eastern nations.
Hamas representatives swiftly rejected the notion, calling it a “recipe for chaos” that would further destabilize the region. Similarly, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN reaffirmed that Palestinians desire to return to their homes in Gaza, not be displaced.
Arab leaders have also expressed strong opposition to Trump’s proposal, warning that such a move could escalate tensions and undermine regional stability.
Despite the pushback, Trump’s comments have reignited debates over the future of Gaza, raising concerns about the implications of external intervention in the region’s affairs.
