The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called on Nigerian women to embrace mentorship as a tool for personal and collective growth, urging them to be both mentees seeking guidance and mentors fostering opportunities for others.
Speaking at the 13th edition of the Business Day Inspiring Woman Series held at the Civic Center in Lagos, the minister underscored the importance of mentorship and collaboration in creating a sustainable cycle of empowerment for future generations.
“Nigerian women have the potential to break barriers and uplift others,” she said. “I have been fortunate to have mentors who guided me through uncharted territories and inspired me to lift others as I climbed. Today, I encourage every woman to embrace mentorship, not only as a mentee but also as a mentor, creating opportunities for others.”
Hajiya Sulaiman-Ibrahim also urged stakeholders to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in implementing key frameworks such as the Revised National Gender Policy (2021–2026), the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy, and the Women, Peace, and Security Architecture to enhance gender equity and women’s empowerment.
The event also featured remarks from the Publisher of Business Day newspapers, Frank Aigbogun, and the wife of Oyo State Governor, Olufunke Tanimunino Makinde, who commended the initiative for highlighting the importance of mentorship and advocacy in advancing women’s roles in society.
