A woman named Precious Yusuf was recently apprehended by officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service for attempting to smuggle drugs to an inmate at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja.
The suspect had disguised herself as a visitor to one of the inmates but was caught during a routine search conducted by the correctional service staff. It was discovered that Yusuf had concealed drugs within food packs that she intended to give to the inmate.
According to Adamu Duza, the FCT command spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Yusuf admitted that she had been sent to deliver the drugs to an inmate within the facility. The drugs were found hidden in food packs inside a carton during the search process at the Kuje Custodial Centre.
As a result of this incident, the Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, instructed that Yusuf be handed over to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
Usman also issued a warning to individuals involved in drug trafficking, advising them to refrain from attempting to smuggle illicit substances into correctional facilities under the guise of visits.
