Wizkid’s Song ‘Essence’ ranks first African song to win iHeartRadio Titanium award.

Ayodeji Balogun, or Wizkid, and Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems, two Grammy Award-winning Nigerian vocalists, have been recognized as the first African donors of the iHeartRadio Titanium Award. Artists whose songs have received 1 billion spins on American iHeartRadio stations are given the Titanium Award. After their smash hit single “Essence” received 1 billion spins across iHeartRadio stations, Wizkid and Tems qualified for the award.

Muyiwa Awoniyi, the director of Tems, recently shared a videotape footage of the award on his Instagram story. The song, which was originally included in Wizkid’s fourth studio album, “Made In Lagos,” was recalled as becoming well-known on American mainstream radio following the release of a remix rendition featuring Canadian singer Justin Bieber in 2021.
