Wike to Fubara: No One Has Monopoly Over Violence

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that no individual or group holds exclusive control over violence, amidst his ongoing political dispute with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking in Port Harcourt at an event organized by the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress in his honor, Wike dismissed claims that Fubara represents the collective voice of the Ijaw people in their rivalry. According to Channels TV, Wike sought to clarify misconceptions surrounding the political tension between the two leaders.

Wike questioned the legitimacy of Fubara’s support base, stating, “All these people going on television saying Ijaw people are fighting me – ask them, who among the Ijaw in the House of Assembly has Fubara helped? The people attacking us are simply envious of our achievements. They’ve failed to do what we are doing today, and if given the chance again, we will defeat them politically.”

Reflecting on his role in the rise of an Ijaw governor in Rivers State, Wike emphasized, “I played a key role in making an Ijaw man governor. God used us. We put in sleepless nights. Who loves the Ijaw more? Those who can’t even support their own Ijaw brother for governor?”

He also warned that his patience should not be mistaken for weakness, stressing the importance of adhering to the rule of law. “I’ve told people, no one has a monopoly on causing violence. While we choose to follow the law and maintain peace to keep investors in the state, we are fully capable of defending ourselves if necessary,” Wike added.
