Wike Rebukes FCT Senator Kingibe says “Friendship Not Compulsory’

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, firmly rebuffed FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe’s attempts to forge a friendship, asserting that camaraderie cannot be coerced.

Wike vehemently criticized the senator, admonishing her for resorting to blackmail tactics rather than adhering to proper channels of communication or focusing on her legislative duties.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the former Rivers Governor disclosed that Senator Kingibe’s discontent stemmed from her failure to secure the coveted position of Chairperson for the Senate Committee on FCT, after being overlooked by the Senate President.

“I decline to engage in personal disputes… she represents the FCT. Yet, she took to insinuating, ‘Wike is occupied with road construction… should I defer maintenance until potholes appear?'” Wike retorted.

Referring to her aspirations for friendship, Wike questioned, “Someone desires companionship, and you retort, ‘I decline your overture. Is it obligatory?’ Her grievance lies in her ambition to chair the Senate Committee on FCT, a role denied to her by the Senate President.”

“What authority does she wield to supervise me? Her insistence on meeting me, what purpose does it serve? Should I seek her counsel only when faced with adversity? I face no challenges. No one can intimidate me,” Wike asserted, drawing on his past ministerial and gubernatorial experiences.

“I have no political baggage to manipulate. It’s not about coercion. Simply do what is just. Her underlying issue? She contested elections against my ally Philip Aduda, and now she perceives my companionship with Philip as a slight against her senatorial status. Should I forsake my friend due to her electoral defeat?” Wike questioned, concluding his stance.
