Wike Questions Fubara’s Influence, Claims Credit for Ijaw Governor

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed pride in playing a key role in making an Ijaw man, Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State.

Speaking during an event organized by the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress in his honor in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike stated that God used him to ensure an Ijaw governor led the state. He also addressed social media reports suggesting that the Ijaw people were opposing him, dismissing such claims as baseless.

Wike explained, “When I was approached by Senator Johnson Nsakebor on behalf of the Rivers Ijaw Congress to honor me, I initially questioned the need for such an event. But they clarified that there are people going on television, claiming to speak for the Ijaw people, and I agreed to attend and set the record straight.”

He added, “This gathering sends a clear message to those in Abuja who don’t understand the situation. If anyone claims that the Ijaw people are fighting me, it’s simply not true. Ungrateful individuals exist everywhere, but that doesn’t reflect the entire community.”

Wike further criticized Governor Fubara, questioning his contributions to the Ijaw people and political growth in Rivers State. “Who has Fubara made? The people criticizing us are envious because they have repeatedly failed to achieve what we have accomplished. If given the chance again, we will defeat them politically as we have in the past,” Wike said.

He emphasized his pivotal role in Fubara’s rise, stating, “I played a significant part in making an Ijaw man governor. We worked tirelessly, and God used us. Who truly loves the Ijaw more? Certainly not those who appear on television without ever supporting their own people.”

Wike also underscored the importance of maintaining peace and order, warning that no one holds exclusive power over violence. “While we choose to abide by the rule of law and keep the state conducive for investors, we will continue to defend ourselves if necessary,” he concluded.
