Calabar — Mrs. Cynthia Ironbar-Akabom has appealed to the Cross River State and Federal Government for urgent assistance in locating her husband, Engineer Bassey Akabom, an employee of the Department of Mortgage Finance, Ministry of Housing.
Engineer Akabom was last heard from on February 21, 2025, the day he left for work and never returned. His wife revealed that in their last conversation, he said he was being held by two unknown individuals at the office.
Efforts to trace him, including visits to his workplace, the State CID, and the DSS office, have yielded no results.
A young man who claimed to have shared a detention cell with Akabom at the DSS facility reported that his health was worsening due to poor conditions.
In a petition dated April 28, 2025, addressed to the Special Adviser on Intelligence Matters, the family alleged that top security officials may be holding him without justification.
The plea, signed by Dr. Ekanem Cobham (JP) of the Obutong/Efangha Offiong Royal House and Mrs. Cynthia Ironbar-Akabom, urged both state and federal authorities to intervene swiftly.
Cynthia said, “The last time we spoke was around 1 PM. He said he was being held by two men and would return soon. That was the last I heard from him.”
When contacted, Mrs. Roselyn Izuagbe, Director of DSS in Cross River, gave no definitive answer, stating, “We have too many people on different assignments. Give me some time to check.”
The family continues to seek answers and help in uncovering Akabom’s whereabouts.
