Why Kano Is Relatively Peaceful – Official

The director-general, Directorate of Special Services, Kano State Government House, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), has revealed that the state is relatively calm and peaceful as a result of its adequate funding on intelligence.

Umaru disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists shortly after defending the directorate’s budget at the state assembly complex.

He highlighted the importance of adequate funding of security to sustain the peace efforts in the state and emphasised the state government’s role in taking proactive measures to ensure that insecurity challenges in other northern states do not spillover to the state.

“We are taking all other protective measures; the machinery the governor is using is that the security council is fully aware of all the intelligence. That is why we have to pay heavily for intelligence to ensure that we are very prompt; no security problem will come to Kano without proactive action.

“The members of the security forces including our local security are doing very well to maintain peace and ensure that economic activities go on without hitches,” he stated.

The DG disclosed that based on their presentation in the budget to ensure adequate funding to keep the peace in the state, the house committee was well satisfied with the proposal.

He therefore praised Governor Abba Yusuf for sustaining the effort at ensuring that the state remains peaceful.

Meanwhile, the commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, said the water agencies have budgeted N22 billion to ensure the availability of potable water supply across the state in 2025.

Others who came in to defend their budgets are the state commissioner for Justice, Justice Haruna Dederi; chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof Sani Malumfashi; executive secretary, Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Dr Kabiru Zakirai, among others who emphasised the need to prioritise initiatives that will improve the wellbeing of all.
