Nigerian Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared why he chose to tie the knot with Chioma, his long-time girlfriend.
In an appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast on Tuesday, Davido provided a glimpse into his personal life and relationship with Chioma.
When asked about his decision to marry Chioma, Davido disclosed their deep connection, stating that they had been together for over a decade.
“She’s been my girlfriend for like 12 to 13 years. She was the only one I could have chosen,” he said.
Davido went on to emphasise that if it weren’t for Chioma, he wouldn’t have married anyone else.
“She’s my friend. If it’s not her, I’m not getting married,” he affirmed.
“If you don’t want me for me, it’s impossible. Like right now? How? I’d have just had kids and chilled.”
The singer highlighted how Chioma stood by him when he was just starting to gain success, even when his income was modest.
He said, “I was famous but I wasn’t big, but I was kind of okay. Let me explain, now I’m making like $600,000 per show, on a good day I make a million. So, she was with me when I was making about $2,000.”
The musician also opened up about how being a celebrity affects his personal relationships.
He noted that despite the challenges that come with being in the limelight, Chioma is calm.
“She’s a calm lady, she’s a good woman. When you have a good woman like that, you don’t want to mess it up,” he said.
Recalling his wedding day as “the happiest moment of my life,” Davido revealed that he was completely at ease during the celebration, not concerned about uninvited guests.
“My wife was more on the lookout. I was chilling. That was the happiest day of my life. I could see my enemy and give him a hug that day.”
The couple tied the knot earlier this year in a highly anticipated wedding and have welcomed a set of twins.
