Walson-Jack Marks 100 Days with Civil Service Reforms

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Esther Didi Walson-Jack, has marked her first 100 days in office with a series of innovative reforms aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s civil service. Appointed in July by President Bola Tinubu and inaugurated in August, her tenure has focused on implementing transformative changes in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at a Recognition Dinner held in Abuja to honor 332 newly-promoted directors, Walson-Jack highlighted the critical role of these leaders in driving reforms and elevating standards within the civil service.

“Your promotion heralds the beginning of a more challenging yet fulfilling phase where your influence and impact will shape the future of our civil service,” she said. She urged the directors to uphold the highest standards of public service while fostering transparency, teamwork, and innovation within their respective teams.

Launch of Transformative Digital Tools

As part of her reform agenda, Mrs. Walson-Jack unveiled a suite of digital tools earlier in the week to enhance operational efficiency, accountability, and capacity development across the civil service. These groundbreaking initiatives include:

Service-Wise GPT: An AI-powered decision-making assistant designed to improve efficiency and streamline processes.

GOVMail: A secure email platform for seamless and official communication.

Nigeria Federal Civil Service Online Academy: A digital learning platform offering courses to upskill civil servants.

Additionally, the HCSF launched four key policies and guidelines on Friday, aimed at strengthening governance and performance within the civil service. These include the Rewards and Recognition Policy and Guidelines, the Incentives and Consequence Management Policy and Guidelines, the Mentoring Framework, and the Protocol on the Use of Federal Government Secretariat.

“These policies are strategically aligned with the Public Service Rules 2021 and the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP-25), ensuring coherence, sustainability, and measurable impact,” she explained.

Driving Reforms Through Leadership

In her address to the newly-promoted directors, Walson-Jack emphasized the importance of leadership in steering reforms and fostering a results-driven work culture.

“Your leadership must be characterized by collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous learning,” she stated, assuring them of her full support in achieving their goals and delivering impactful results.

The Head of Service’s first 100 days in office have laid a strong foundation for transforming Nigeria’s civil service into a technology-driven, citizen-centric institution capable of meeting the nation’s developmental aspirations. Through these bold initiatives, Walson-Jack has demonstrated a clear commitment to aligning public service operations with global best practices.
