WAEC Dismisses Rumours of Cancelled Results, Script Calls

Lagos, NigeriaThe West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cautioned the public against widespread false claims suggesting that the results of certain schools were cancelled or that candidates’ scripts were being recalled.

The warning came from Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), where she described the circulating messages as completely untrue and unverified.

Adesina emphasized that such misinformation did not originate from WAEC or any of its official channels, urging candidates, parents, and school authorities to seek confirmation from credible sources only.

“Kindly disregard any viral post listing schools with cancelled results,” she said, adding that the rumors were designed to mislead and create panic.

She also dismissed claims that WAEC had instructed some centres to submit candidates’ examination scripts to its office.

“WAEC has never and will never request for scripts to be brought to its offices. All scripts are securely managed during marking and investigations,” Adesina affirmed.

Reiterating its stance, WAEC stressed that all official announcements are only released through its verified social media platforms and accredited media outlets.

The Council advised the public to stay informed via authentic sources and warned against spreading or believing in content from unreliable platforms.

In conclusion, WAEC reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, due process, and professionalism in managing examination issues, and encouraged individuals to report suspicious content to appropriate authorities.

The body also reassured candidates awaiting their results that any ongoing verifications are being handled fairly and with utmost integrity.
