Veteran actress Jumoke George seeks urgent public help

Lagos, NigeriaRenowned Nollywood actress Jumoke George has made an emotional appeal for assistance, revealing that she has been battling illness and homelessness for the past six years.

The revelation was made during a heartfelt interview on the talk show Talk to B, hosted by actress Biola Adebayo. In the episode, which aired on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the veteran thespian broke down in tears as she detailed her struggles, including living in a church and depending on charitable support for survival.

Best known for her roles in numerous Yoruba-language films and as a caterer in the award-winning movie Wedding Party, George said she is currently without a home, in poor health, and searching for a missing child.

“I don’t have a home, I don’t have anything and a child of mine is missing. I don’t have good health; I am tired and exhausted. I’m living in the church, most times it’s the church mummy that feeds me,” she disclosed during the interview.

Reacting on social media, users expressed sadness and frustration. Instagram user #ade_dayo wrote, “Yoruba actors and actresses, you all need to do better. You don’t help each other, but if it’s a party or movie premiere, you’ll spend millions on outfits. That’s bad for the industry.”

On X.com, user #thefashygram commented, “Is this for real? I feel so bad for this woman because she’s a really good actress.”

Another user, #sheyi_omotayo, confirmed her story, noting, “The church is in my street in Agbado. We didn’t know she was suffering. People thought she was wealthy.”

Actor and content creator #iamtrinityguy also weighed in, emphasizing the need for stronger community bonds in the industry. “This mummy was homeless for some years and nobody knew. It’s so sad to see our legends facing these kinds of conditions.”

The interview has renewed calls for sustainable welfare systems and support networks for aging entertainers, highlighting the harsh realities faced by some of the industry’s pioneers.
