Controversial social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has disclosed how he came into possession of a contentious phone recording involving cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
VDM explained that the recording, which has sparked widespread debate, was provided by an individual to whom Bobrisky allegedly owed money. He shared a portion of the recording with a panel from the House of Representatives investigating bribery allegations linked to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The revelation was made on Monday when VDM appeared before the House panel. The investigation is looking into allegations of bribery and corruption involving both the EFCC and the prison service, with officials from both organizations also present at the session.
Initially, VDM hesitated to testify before the committee, citing the absence of Bobrisky, who had been invited but chose to send his lawyer instead. However, the lawmakers insisted, and a motion was passed, compelling VDM to speak on the subject of the leaked recording.
VDM explained that the recording was linked to a debt Bobrisky owed to a lender, who had loaned him ₦4 million during Bobrisky’s time in EFCC custody. According to VDM, the lender provided the funds on June 19, 2024, and the money was deposited into the account of Bobrisky’s relative, Abiola Okuneye.
“When the lender sought repayment, Bobrisky promised to pay by September 19. However, when the lender reached out on September 1, Bobrisky refused and allegedly resorted to blackmail, threatening to make false claims about inappropriate behavior,” VDM said.
VDM further detailed how a friend intervened, pressuring Bobrisky to repay the debt within four hours. While the money was eventually paid back, VDM decided to release the audio recording to the public, stating that it was necessary to expose the situation despite the repayment.
“When I heard the audio, I thought, even though the debt was settled, this information needs to come out because many people are suffering in prison. Meanwhile, someone with connections is getting away with such behavior,” VDM said.
VDM, who has been vocal about his experiences in prison, highlighted the disparity in treatment, pointing out that Bobrisky allegedly benefited from his connections, while many others in similar situations were not so fortunate.
In a widely circulated video, VDM also accused Bobrisky of paying ₦15 million to have money laundering charges dropped by the EFCC following his naira-spraying incident in April, which had resulted in a six-month prison sentence. He further alleged that Bobrisky had paid additional sums to secure preferential treatment during his time in custody.
Bobrisky has since denied these allegations, while both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have launched investigations into the claims raised by VDM.
