Presidential villa—The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that parts of the Presidential Villa and 60% of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, are experiencing power outages following the theft of a 132-kilovolt underground cable by vandals.
According to TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the stolen cable is crucial for transporting bulk electricity to the 132kV Central Area Transmission Substation in Abuja.
The theft of the cable, which occurred around the Millennium Park area of Abuja, resulted in the loss of 40 meters of 1x500mm² XLPE conductors from two 132kV transmission lines. TCN stated that the vandalized cable is essential for supplying power to the Central Area and its surrounding areas through distribution feeders operated by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Engineers from TCN have been dispatched to the site of the incident to repair the damaged cables and restore power supply to the affected areas. As a result of the vandalism, several parts of the Federal Capital Territory, including Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and sections of the Presidential Villa, are currently experiencing power outages.
