Usyk Announces Break to Focus on Family After Defeating Dubois

Kyiv, UkraineFresh off his victory over Britain’s Daniel Dubois, Ukrainian heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk has revealed he will take time off from boxing to be with his family, declaring that he needs rest after reclaiming his status as a two-time undisputed world champion.

Usyk, who floored Dubois twice with commanding blows in the fifth round—including a decisive left hook—successfully retained his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles while also regaining the IBF belt he previously vacated.

Speaking to DAZN post-fight, Usyk acknowledged Dubois’s effort and emphasized his immediate priority was recovery, not future bouts.

“My people wanted this victory. I’m sorry for Dubois, but this is sport,” Usyk told DAZN. “For now, nothing is planned. It’s enough. I just want to rest—spend time with my family, my wife, my children. For the next two or three months, I need rest.”

Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) now joins fellow Britons Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in being twice bested by Usyk, who previously held the undisputed crown as a cruiserweight before stepping up to the heavyweight division six years ago.
