Abuja, Nigeria
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised protesters to avoid using social media to communicate with his office and instead follow the proper channels for such notifications.
During a town hall meeting with key stakeholders in the FCT on Saturday, Wike highlighted that the organizers of the planned #EndBadGovernance protest, scheduled to begin on August 1, have not formally requested permission to use the Eagle Square for their demonstration.
“The FCT is not available for such protests on the 1st,” Wike emphasized, urging residents to refrain from participating in the planned protest.
The meeting, held ahead of the demonstrations, included the FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, area council chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political party representatives, and delegates from women and youth groups.
The purpose of Saturday’s gathering was to establish a communication channel between the FCT administration and the capital’s residents, allowing them to express their concerns about current leadership and discuss potential solutions.
