Paris, France — UK Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has emphasized the need for a United States-backed security guarantee in any peace agreement involving Ukraine to prevent future Russian aggression.
Following a high-level meeting with European leaders in Paris, Starmer stressed that a US commitment was essential to effectively deter Russia. He also revealed plans to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington next week to discuss potential peace arrangements.
Addressing concerns over long-term stability, Starmer indicated that he would consider deploying UK troops to Ukraine as part of a broader peace framework.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Kyiv was unaware of discussions held in Saudi Arabia and would not acknowledge any agreement made without its involvement.
While US officials have assured that European nations would be consulted on peace negotiations, they clarified that direct participation would not be extended to them.
French President Emmanuel Macron also confirmed his involvement, posting on X in the early hours of Tuesday that he had recently spoken with both Trump and Zelensky regarding the situation.
