The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced changes to its immigration visa application process, effective January 1, 2025. Under the revised procedure, applicants with scheduled interviews must visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice during the application process.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the embassy explained that the new process aims to streamline visa interviews and minimize delays.
“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, it is mandatory to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice as part of the immigrant visa process. This new procedure is designed to help applicants prepare for their visa interviews and prevent significant delays in processing,” the statement read.
Details of the New Process
According to the embassy’s website, the first visit involves an “In-Person Document Review” with a consular staff member. This step allows applicants to verify their documents and address any deficiencies before their visa interview. The embassy highlighted that this review is crucial to reducing delays caused by incomplete submissions.
The second visit will be the actual visa interview, conducted by a Consular Officer. The National Visa Center (NVC) will schedule this appointment. Applicants who fail to complete the document review before their interview will be required to reschedule.
The embassy emphasized that the changes are designed to improve efficiency and ensure smoother processing of immigration visas.
Recent Updates in US Visa Services
As part of broader efforts to enhance its services, the U.S. Embassy transitioned to a new visa services provider for its consulates in Abuja and Lagos on August 26, 2024. This move reflects ongoing improvements to better serve applicants.
