A United States-based Nigerian, Oluwole Adegboruwa, and his accomplice, Enrique Isong, have received a combined 40-year prison sentence for operating a dark web drug trafficking network across several U.S. states.
According to a statement from the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Utah, Adegboruwa was sentenced to 30 years in prison and forfeiture of $20 million. His co-conspirator, Isong, was sentenced earlier to 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release.
The statement detailed that between October 2016 and May 2019, Adegboruwa’s syndicate sold over 300,000 oxycodone pills, earning illicit proceeds exceeding $9 million. Adegboruwa masterminded the operation, overseeing procurement, packaging, and distribution through dark web marketplaces.
The U.S. District Court Judge Jill N. Parish, who presided over the trial, described the case as one of the largest forfeiture rulings in the history of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah. The court found both men guilty in May 2024 on charges including conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and money laundering.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Adegboruwa accepted payments through cryptocurrency to conceal the origins of the drug proceeds. The funds were later converted into local currency, enabling the syndicate to launder its profits.

DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division Special Agent in Charge, Jonathan Pullen, commended the judgment, stating that the case underscores the DEA’s resolve to dismantle sophisticated drug networks.
“Adegboruwa’s criminal enterprise was complex and generated millions of dollars in profits concealed through cryptocurrency transactions. This sentencing serves as a reminder that drug traffickers cannot evade justice, even within the shadowy realms of the dark web,” Pullen said.
