United Nigeria gets the green light for international flights – global reach on the horizon

United Nigeria Airlines, one of the prominent airlines in Nigeria, has received approval to operate international flights to several countries. The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development granted this approval, allowing the airline to fly to the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This approval is in accordance with the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA) between Nigeria and these countries. The airline received a letter from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, signed by Mr. H.T. Ejiburu, the Director of Air Transport Management, on behalf of Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The letter instructs United Nigeria Airlines Company Limited to liaise with the civil aviation authorities of the mentioned countries for the necessary documentation before commencing scheduled flight operations. Additionally, the airline must comply with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs (2023) Part 18.5.1.1 A-C) and coordinate with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to fulfill any required requirements.

The approval has also been communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for further necessary actions. United Nigeria Airlines, led by Chairman Prof Obiora Okonkwo OFR, began its flight operations in 2021, primarily serving major Nigerian cities. The airline had previously obtained approval for regional flights and is in the process of finalizing arrangements to commence regional operations in the coming weeks upon the arrival of additional aircraft in mid-October.
