UK Regulator Flags Air Peace for Alleged Safety Violations

The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has alerted Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to potential safety violations by Nigerian airline, Air Peace.

In a formal communication, the UK CAA filed two mandatory occurrence reports concerning Air Peace’s operations at London Gatwick Airport, only three months after the airline commenced its Lagos-London service.

The complaint, documented as “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” (reference number: CAA-UK-2024-0217) and “NATS Management System Safety Report,” has been forwarded to the NCAA for further action.

In response, the NCAA addressed Air Peace, seeking clarification on the issues raised. The letter, signed by NCAA’s General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani, highlighted that the UK CAA had not approved the Electronic Flight Bag functions critical to the aircraft’s safe operation. Additionally, deficiencies were noted in the mounting device for Electronic Flight Bags, charging points, and backup batteries.

Air Peace recently launched operations at London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, operating under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK.
