Uganda Confirms Nine Ebola Cases, Reports One Fatality

Kampala, Uganda  —  Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed nine cases of Ebola, including one fatality, as officials intensify efforts to contain the outbreak.

The announcement, made late Monday, indicated that seven patients are currently receiving treatment in Kampala, while another case is being managed in Mbale, near the Kenyan border. Health authorities confirmed that all eight patients remain in stable condition, while 265 identified contacts have been placed under quarantine for monitoring.

The outbreak, which was declared last month, has been attributed to the Sudan strain of Ebola, a variant for which no approved vaccine currently exists, raising concerns about containment efforts.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), symptoms of Ebola can emerge between two and 21 days after infection, presenting as fever, severe headaches, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and internal bleeding.

Despite the challenges posed by the outbreak, WHO Emergencies Director, Dr. Mike Ryan, expressed cautious optimism about an experimental vaccine designed specifically for outbreak response.

Health authorities continue to implement preventive measures to curb the virus’s spread, reinforcing Uganda’s commitment to managing the situation and mitigating further risks.
