Madrid, Spain — Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has expressed his desire for a rematch against Liverpool in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Los Blancos are one step away from securing a spot in the Round of 16, needing to navigate a crucial play-off clash against Manchester City. Carlo Ancelotti’s side holds a slender 3-2 advantage going into the second leg on Wednesday.
Liverpool, who have already progressed, met Madrid earlier in the tournament at Anfield, where Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo scored in a 2-0 victory, since their first win over the Spanish giants since 2009. Despite that result, Real Madrid have dominated past encounters, winning seven of their last eight meetings with the Reds.
In a conversation with Rio Ferdinand on the Rio Meets podcast, Courtois expressed his anticipation for another battle with Arne Slot’s men.
“Liverpool are performing well this season, so hopefully we’ll meet them again and win this time,” Courtois remarked.
Madrid’s loss at Anfield was one of several setbacks in the league phase, pushing them into the play-offs to fight for a place in the next round.
Courtois and his teammates now focus on securing qualification, with hopes of reigniting their long-standing rivalry with Liverpool later in the tournament.
