Barcelona, Spain — Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has emphasized that the team will not take Benfica lightly in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Deco stressed the need for thorough preparation to avoid any surprises.
“There are no easy matches at this stage. We’ve already faced them in a tough encounter where we had to stage a historic comeback. Benfica is very strong at home, and we must focus solely on this tie rather than thinking ahead to the quarter-finals,” Deco stated.
When asked about avoiding Paris Saint-Germain in the draw, Deco dismissed the notion of easy paths in the competition.
“Last season, PSG was one of the favorites, yet they didn’t make it past the semifinals. The Champions League doesn’t follow predictions, which you have to play, fight for qualification, and take it one match at a time,” he added.
