UBEC to Revitalize State Offices for Enhanced Service Delivery

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has announced plans to revamp its state and zonal offices to improve service delivery at both state and local government levels.

Speaking at a meeting, UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Hamid Bobboyi explained that the review of the commission’s operational structure became essential due to inefficiencies that had affected productivity. He highlighted that staff from the headquarters had not been adequately overseeing projects at zonal offices, which resulted in poor monitoring and inaccurate reporting. This led to instances of uncompleted projects and payments for substandard work.

“The impact of these shortcomings has not only affected the commission’s efficiency and image but has also led to absenteeism and low morale among field office staff,” Dr. Bobboyi stated. He emphasized that a restructuring of the commission’s implementation processes is both necessary and urgent to address these challenges.

One of the primary goals of this reorganization is to empower zonal and state offices to carry out the roles they were originally intended to fulfill. Dr. Bobboyi urged zonal directors and state coordinators to implement the new strategies rigorously to align with ministerial objectives.

UBEC also committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure the success of the restructuring and called on all state actors to actively participate in deliberations for effective service delivery across Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) program.
