U.S. Court Sentences Nigerian National to Five Years Over Sextortion Scheme Linked to Teen’s Death

Pennsylvania, USA — A U.S. federal court has sentenced Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, a Nigerian national, to five years in prison for his involvement in a transnational sextortion and wire fraud conspiracy that led to the tragic death of a teenager in Pennsylvania.

The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney David Metcalf, who stated that Abiodun had pleaded guilty in December 2024 to charges of money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud. His role as a financial intermediary in the online scheme was deemed central to the crime, which devastated the victim’s family and drew widespread condemnation.

According to prosecutors, Abiodun conspired with co-defendant Imoleayo Samuel Aina, known online as “Alice Dave,” and another accomplice, Afeez Olatunji Adewale, to exploit vulnerable young individuals through online blackmail. The defendants were arrested in Nigeria and handed over to the FBI on July 31, 2024, following successful cooperation with Nigerian authorities. Abiodun and Aina were extradited to the United States to face prosecution, while Adewale remains in Nigeria pending extradition.

Aina has also pleaded guilty and could face a life sentence when he appears in court for sentencing in August 2025. Adewale is facing similar charges of money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud.

U.S. Attorney Metcalf condemned the conspiracy, describing it as a predatory operation designed to exploit young victims for financial gain. “As the financial middleman, Abiodun played a key role in this sextortion scheme, which thoroughly traumatized the victim and then devastated his family,” Metcalf said.

“These scammers’ sole aim is to get money from scared and vulnerable young people, with absolutely no regard for their feelings or the potential fallout,” he added. “We want to send a message that the Department of Justice’s reach is long. If you target innocent Americans, we will come for you—even across borders.”

The investigation was led by the FBI in partnership with the Abington Township Police Department, with vital support from law enforcement authorities in Nigeria.
