In Ibadan, two individuals, Sanda Umaru (age 22) and Usman Yahaha (age 28), have been remanded in a correctional facility by the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court for their alleged involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping.
The defendants, who do not have fixed addresses, were brought before the court on charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate Mrs. M. Olagbenro decided not to take the plea of the defendants due to jurisdictional constraints.
She instructed that the case file be sent back to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal guidance. The case has been adjourned until November 14 for further mention.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Tellang, the accused individuals committed the crimes on July 30 around 2:00 a.m. in Alaguntan village via Igbope, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Tellang stated that the defendants, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, attacked the complainant, Abubakar Umaru, robbing him of his cell phone.
Additionally, they kidnapped Umaru and demanded a ransom of N50 million from his brother Musa Umaru.
The charges against the defendants are in violation of specific sections of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria 2004 and the Oyo State Kidnapping Law of 2016.
