Turkey: Osimhen Ends Galatasaray Loan with Final-Day Goal

IstanbulNigerian forward Victor Osimhen capped off his loan stint with Turkish giants Galatasaray on a high note, scoring in their 2–0 triumph over Istanbul Başakşehir on the final day of the 2024/25 Turkish Super Lig season.

The match, played at the Nef Stadium, saw Galatasaray break the deadlock early, with veteran Belgian playmaker Dries Mertens converting from the penalty spot in the 15th minute. The hosts maintained control throughout, sealing the victory in the 81st minute when Osimhen found the back of the net with a clinical finish.

The 26-year-old striker, on loan from Napoli, ends the domestic league campaign with an impressive tally of 26 league goals under head coach Okan Buruk. His overall contribution for the Yellow and Reds this season was remarkable — 37 goals and seven assists across all competitions.

Galatasaray’s win marked their 30th of the league season, securing a commanding total of 95 points to wrap up what has been a dominant campaign. The performance of Osimhen has been a highlight for the Turkish champions, who are now expected to push for a permanent deal or renew negotiations with Napoli.

Meanwhile, Başakşehir concluded their campaign in fifth place, which secures them a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League, capping a commendable run in the domestic season.

Osimhen’s performance in Turkey is likely to influence Super Eagles coach Finidi George’s selection ahead of the September kickoff for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
