Tuchel Makes History as England Secure Win Over Andorra

LondonThomas Tuchel has etched his name into the England record books, becoming the first manager to win his opening three matches in charge without conceding a goal, following a 1-0 victory over Andorra in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier.

The match, played under the lights in front of travelling English supporters, saw captain Harry Kane score the decisive goal. However, the Three Lions’ overall performance left much to be desired, as they struggled to assert dominance against a resolute Andorran side.

Tuchel, speaking after the game, did not hide his frustration. “I wasn’t pleased with how we played,” he told ITV. “We started brightly — the first 20 to 25 minutes were solid with good build-up and several chances — but then we completely lost momentum.”

Despite a slight improvement after halftime, Tuchel criticised his team’s lack of urgency and intent. “We never really regained control. The second half was marginally better, but overall, it wasn’t good enough for a World Cup qualifier,” he said.

He singled out Noni Madueke for praise, calling him the standout performer of the night. “Noni was consistent with our tactical plan. His energy was evident, and he remained dangerous throughout. But it was not matched by others.”

The German coach was particularly unimpressed with the closing stages of the match. “What concerned me most was the attitude in the final 20 minutes. It lacked the seriousness and urgency expected at this level. That will be addressed in training.”

Captain Kane echoed his manager’s sentiments, acknowledging the team’s shortcomings. “We’re obviously happy with the points, but we know the performance wasn’t good enough. The fans deserved more than just a narrow win,” he said.

Despite the underwhelming display, the victory keeps England’s qualifying campaign on track and maintains Tuchel’s perfect defensive record — a promising foundation, even as the team seeks sharper form moving forward.
