Washington, D.C., USA — The Trump administration has officially withdrawn Harvard University’s authorization to admit international students, intensifying tensions between the Ivy League institution and the federal government.
This decision was disclosed in a letter from U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, as reported by The New York Times. In the letter, Noem stated that the university’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) had been revoked with immediate effect.
The revocation follows previous warnings issued in April, where Secretary Noem had cautioned that Harvard’s continued ability to enroll foreign students depended on strict adherence to U.S. immigration regulations.
The Department of Homeland Security, emphasized that compliance with federal immigration law remains a core requirement for institutions hosting international students. The move marks a significant escalation in an ongoing legal dispute between the university and the Trump administration.
