Abuja, Nigeria — Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to the infamous terrorist leader Bello Turji, alongside other top commanders and fighters.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in a statement detailing the military’s offensive, which took place between January 20 and 21, 2025. The operation dealt a critical blow to the terror network in the North West region.
The offensive led to the elimination of close associates of Bello Turji, including his younger brother, Dosso, and key commanders such as Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, and Basiru Yellow. Additionally, more than 24 fleeing terrorists were neutralized during operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
One of those killed was Suleiman, a known loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu. Suleiman was reportedly leading a failed rescue mission aimed at reinforcing Turji’s camp when he was intercepted and neutralized.
Major Blow to Terrorist Operations
The military described the operation as a major setback for the terrorists, who were responsible for orchestrating numerous kidnappings and violent attacks across Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas.
“This operation significantly degrades their operational capabilities,” Major General Buba stated.
He reiterated the military’s unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring peace and security for all Nigerians.
