Troops Eliminate Six Insurgents in Giwa, Kaduna State

Troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army and Operation Whirl Punch have neutralized six insurgents and detained three suspects in special operations conducted in Giwa Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

A statement from Mr. Samuel Aruwan, overseeing Commissioner of the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, detailed that the operations were initiated based on credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities in the area. The troops launched a special fighting patrol in the Galadimawa general area within Giwa LGA.

The troops initially established a position in Sabon Sara village, where they discovered a herd of rustled cattle abandoned by insurgents who fled the scene. The recovered cattle were subsequently returned to local residents before the troops advanced further.

According to the statement, the troops encountered insurgents at the Market Square of Galadimawa, resulting in a swift exchange of gunfire that led to six insurgents being killed.

“This information was conveyed to the Kaduna State Government in an operational feedback report from the military,” the statement noted.

Further searches in the market area led to the arrest of three suspected collaborators and informants, believed to be providing logistical support to the insurgents. The troops also seized two motorcycles and four mobile phones.

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani, received the report and commended the troops, led by Major General MLD Saraso, General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation Whirl Punch, for their success. The Governor urged security forces to conduct thorough investigations to dismantle additional criminal networks.

The statement concluded that special operations will persist in the general area and other locations of interest. Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has appealed to residents in frontline communities to continue providing timely intelligence to the nearest security formations or through the 24-hour Security Operations Room at 09034000060 and 08170189999.
