The Katsina State Police Command has made an arrest in connection with a gang targeting commercial tricycle riders, also known as Keke Napep, in the state. The suspect, identified as Umar Musbahu from Daura LGA, was apprehended on May 16, 2024, at Barhim Roundabout in Katsina State capital, around 10:25 pm. According to the Police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Musbahu was caught in the act with the help of bystanders while attempting to rob a tricycle rider.
ASP Aliyu stated that the gang’s modus operandi involves drugging their victims by offering them drinks laced with sedatives before robbing them of their tricycles. While some members of the gang managed to escape, two additional victims have come forward to identify Musbahu as the culprit responsible for stealing their tricycles, valued at N1.6 million and N2.25 million, respectively. Musbahu confessed to the crime during interrogation and implicated two accomplices, Abdulrahman from Jibia and Dan Hajiya from Katsina State, who are currently at large.
The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the public for their assistance in apprehending Musbahu and urged continued vigilance. He assured the community that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts to capture the remaining suspects are being intensified.
