In a devastating incident on Tuesday evening, sixteen travellers lost their lives in a motor accident in Enugu State, with two others narrowly escaping the inferno that ensued. The survivors were promptly rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical attention to treat their injuries.
According to authorities, the accident involved an 18-seater white Toyota Hummer bus with Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA, bearing the inscription “Masha Allah.” Reportedly, the vehicle was traveling at high speed, lost control, and careened into the fence of Maduka University along the road, resulting in a fiery crash.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, laden with edible vegetables, food items, and passengers’ belongings, was en route from the Enugu axis towards Nsukka. However, the exact departure point and final destination remain to be determined, although authorities have recovered the items with the assistance of the Igbo-Etiti Police Division.
While expressing condolences to the yet-to-be-traced family members, friends, and associates of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police described the accident and its aftermath as deeply saddening. Urging individuals with information to step forward and assist in identifying the victims or tracing their families, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of community cooperation during such tragic events.
