Tragedy Strikes: Fatalities Surge as Ferry Capsizes in Central African Republic

The Central African Republic (CAR) witnesses a catastrophic loss of life as a ferry, with over 300 passengers aboard, tragically overturns near the capital city of Bangui.

The calamitous event occurred as the vessel was en route to a funeral on Friday, resulting in the loss of at least 58 lives, with the fate of others still uncertain. Shocking visuals circulating on social media depict harrowing scenes of individuals desperately attempting to escape the sinking ferry by leaping into the treacherous waters of the Mpoko River.

Regrettably, such maritime tragedies are not unfamiliar occurrences in the region. Civil protection authorities, led by Thomas Djimasse, confirmed the grim retrieval of 58 deceased individuals from the river, while the whereabouts of those still submerged remain a haunting uncertainty

. Amidst this tragedy, scores of survivors are currently undergoing medical treatment in Bangui’s hospitals, underscoring the urgent need for swift action and support in the aftermath of this devastating boat mishap.
