The Anambra Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a tragic accident at Odumodu Junction in Nteje-Awka, resulting in the loss of five lives. The incident, which occurred at 7:30 a.m., involved a commercial bus and a trailer carrying a container. According to Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the state Sector Commander, the accident happened when the bus driver attempted to avoid a damaged section of the road, causing the container to fall onto the bus.
The vehicles involved were a Mistibushi L300 commercial bus with registration number XE245AWK and a commercial Daf/Leyland truck with number T-19094LA. These vehicles were en route to different destinations, one heading to Awka and the other to Onitsha.
Out of the ten individuals involved in the crash, five women tragically lost their lives, while two men and two women sustained injuries. Fortunately, one man was rescued without harm. The injured were taken to Divine Care Hospital in Umunya, while the deceased were transported to Chira Hospital for official confirmation by doctors before being placed in the New Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje.
Efforts are underway to clear the obstruction caused by the accident, and the FRSC sector commander expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured. He also emphasized the importance of cautious driving for all motorists.
