Top Gospel Artistes Redefining the Sound of Worship

Lagos, Nigeria — The gospel music scene is undergoing a dynamic transformation as a new generation of artistes blends afrobeats, RnB, and urban sounds into traditional worship. These fresh voices are not only reshaping the sonic landscape of Christian music but also broadening its appeal to younger, global audiences.  

AnEndlessOcean
Ayobami Alli-Hakeem, better known as AnEndlessOcean, is a genre-defying gospel singer and producer celebrated for his emotionally rich and spiritually resonant music. Raised by parents of different faiths, he ultimately embraced Christianity, beginning his musical journey as a bassist in church.

A graduate of Engineering from FUPRE, AEO received Headies nominations in 2024 for Best Inspirational Single and Best Vocal Performance. His discography, inspired by geometric forms, includes Apeirogon (2021), Decagon (2023), Hexagon, Octagon (2024), and the anticipated Nonagon. Blending divine love with human experiences, his sound comfortably straddles sacred and secular spaces.

Limoblaze
Samuel Onwubiko, professionally known as Limoblaze, is one of Nigeria’s most-streamed gospel artistes with over 30 million streams. Starting his career in a church in Makurdi, he studied Biochemistry before finding his true calling in music.

His 2022 breakout single Jireh—featuring Lecrae and Happi—topped Billboard charts and earned a MOBO Award and Headies nomination. Known for blending afrobeats with gospel, Limoblaze aims to make Christian music relatable beyond Sunday services. In 2022, he became the first non-American artist signed to Reach Records. His latest album Young and Chosen showcases his Afro-gospel style.

Greatman Takit
Lagos-born and Kwara-bred Greatman Takit is a vibrant Afro-gospel artist known for blending rap, soul, and spirituality. Though the son of a pastor, Takit drew inspiration from both gospel choirs and hip-hop legends like Tupac.

His debut single Ain’t Nobody dropped in 2011, with later tracks like Ijo (2013) and Farewemi (2014) establishing his style. His 2016 EP Wildfire marked a turning point. In 2023, he collaborated with Moses Bliss on Daddy Wey Dey Pamper, and featured on Israel Houghton and Tim Godfrey’s Glory in 2025. He won Best Gospel Rap Artist at the 2024 Kingdom Achievers Awards.

Mercy Chinwo
Mercy Chinwo remains a pillar of the Nigerian gospel music scene with her soul-stirring vocals and inspirational lyrics. Starting in a church choir at eight, she rose to prominence after winning Nigerian Idol Season 2.

With hits like Excess Love and Igwe, Chinwo has become a household name. Her collaborations with artists like Nathaniel Bassey and Moses Bliss have only elevated her profile. In 2025, she clinched Best Inspirational Single at the Headies for You Do This One. Despite a public fallout with EeZee Conceptz, she continues to release impactful music.

Prinx Emmanuel
Prince Emmanuel, known as Prinx Emmanuel, is redefining gospel with his streetwise blend of afrobeats, gospel, and pidgin. Raised in Port Harcourt, he found his footing as a drummer and later emerged as a producer and artist.

His 2016 debut Brother Nwachukwu laid the groundwork for a unique “street-church” sound. He gained global recognition with Kumama Papa (2022), featuring Grace Lokwa and Moses Bliss. In March 2025, he headlined London’s Reverb concert and also performed at The Experience in Lagos. In 2025, he was named Gospel Artist of the Year.

Theophilus Sunday
From Kogi State, Theophilus Sunday is a worship leader known for his prophetic style and deep spiritual expressions. A graduate of Theatre Arts, he serves as a leading voice in 1Spirit, a movement focused on preparing the church for Christ’s return.

Merging traditional Igala rhythms with modern worship, his music carries a weight of devotion and urgency. “Music is just the bait,” he once said, “to call the church into God’s burden.”

Ebuka Songs
Ebuka Hillary, popularly known as Ebuka Songs, rose to fame with his passionate chants and intense worship style. His 2023 viral hit I Will Pray became an anthem across churches.

A former university worship leader, Ebuka released his debut album Midnight Cry in 2021. His 2023 accolades include CLIMA Africa’s Best Male Gospel Artiste and Galaxy Music Awards’ Breakthrough Artist. He was also listed among YNaija’s 150 Most Interesting People in Culture.

Gaise Baba
Akinade Ibuoye, known as Gaise Baba, is an Afro-fusion gospel act blending Yoruba, English, and Pidgin in deeply spiritual lyrics. After debuting in 2011 with Follow Follow, he signed with Coded Tunes in 2015.

An advocate for youth empowerment, he founded LightOut Initiative, which has impacted over 29,000 students. His latest single No Turning Back, featuring Lawrence Oyor, is gaining popularity.

Victoria Orenze
Born in Benin City, Victoria Orenze is a powerful worship leader whose music draws from deep spiritual wells. A MUSON alumna who also trained at Berklee, she first gained attention with Nathaniel Bassey’s Alagbada Ina.

Her 2023 hit I Get Backing earned her Headies and Galaxy Music Award nominations. With a global fanbase, Orenze’s music continues to inspire intimate worship experiences worldwide.

Moses Bliss
Hailing from Akwa Ibom, Moses Enang—aka Moses Bliss—began singing in his local church choir before releasing his debut God is Real in 2014. His 2019 single Too Faithful catapulted him into the spotlight.

In 2025, he received the African Achievers Award for Excellence in Contemporary Music at the UK Parliament. His growing global influence saw him perform for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their 2024 visit to Nigeria, affirming his status as one of gospel’s global ambassadors.
