Tito Jackson, Jackson 5 Legend, Passes Away at 70

Tito Jackson, a founding member of the iconic Jackson 5 and brother to the late Michael Jackson, has passed away at the age of 70. His death marks the loss of yet another legend in the world-renowned Jackson family, known for their profound influence on music history.

The Jackson family, mourning the passing of their beloved brother, expressed their grief publicly. Tito’s sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, released a heartfelt message on social media, saying, “We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared deeply about everyone’s well-being. He will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us.”

Tito, born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, rose to fame alongside his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael as part of the Jackson 5. His rhythm guitar skills and harmonies played a crucial role in propelling the group to international success in the 1960s. Signed to Motown Records in 1968, their debut single “I Want You Back” topped the Billboard Hot 100, followed by hits like “ABC” and “The Love You Save.”

Although Tito often stayed in the background while his brother Michael dominated the spotlight, his contributions to the group’s success were undeniable. The Jackson 5’s debut album in 1969 signaled the start of their chart-topping reign, and their music remains a cultural touchstone decades later.

Throughout the 1970s, after leaving Motown, the group rebranded as The Jacksons and continued to release albums and perform throughout the 1980s. Tito’s contributions to albums like Destiny and Triumph further cemented their success on the Billboard 200 and R&B charts.

In 2016, Tito launched his solo career with the release of his debut album Tito Time, which featured the single “Get It Baby,” reaching No. 19 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. Despite stepping out on his own later in life, Tito remained a beloved figure, admired for his consistent dedication to music.

Tito’s passing follows the death of his younger brother Michael in 2009 from acute propofol intoxication, and their father, Joe Jackson, who died in 2018 at the age of 89. Joe Jackson was instrumental in managing the Jackson 5’s early career, helping to guide them to global stardom.

Tito is survived by his three sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ, who followed in their father’s footsteps to form their own group, 3T, in the 1990s. He also leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond his contributions to music, with countless fans around the world remembering him as a key figure in the Jackson family’s incredible journey.

The Jackson family continues to honor Tito’s memory, encouraging people to follow his enduring message: “Love one another.”
