Tinubu’s First Year Marked by Economic Revival and Social Programs – SGF

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has achieved significant progress in reviving Nigeria’s economy and implementing social programs in its first year.

Presenting the administration’s one-year progress report at a ministerial sectoral updates session on Wednesday, Akume highlighted President Tinubu’s reforms aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential.

“This administration has implemented substantial economic reforms to stabilize our economy and promote sustainable growth,” Akume stated.

He noted policies that have attracted foreign investment, reduced inflation, and created jobs across various sectors.

One key reform was the 2023 Electricity Bill, which ended monopolistic control over electricity, enabling states, corporations, and individuals to generate, distribute, and transmit power.

On the fiscal front, Akume mentioned the removal of the fuel subsidy, describing it as a “challenging but necessary” measure to curb corruption and inefficiency and reduce the government’s annual fiscal burden.

Infrastructure development has been another focus, with extensive road networks, improved rail systems, and modernized ports enhancing trade and connectivity.

In addition to economic measures, Akume emphasized the administration’s commitment to social programs targeting poverty alleviation and the empowerment of vulnerable groups. These initiatives have provided financial assistance, skills acquisition opportunities, and improved access to essential services.

Investments in healthcare and educational reforms have also been prioritized to enhance human capital development.

Akume acknowledged the challenges faced during the first year but praised President Tinubu’s “calm, unwavering commitment and resilience” in diligently serving Nigerians.

Looking ahead, Akume stated that the administration remains dedicated to its “Renewed Hope Agenda,” focusing on economic revitalization, social inclusion, and infrastructure development to benefit all Nigerians. He called for collective efforts toward unity, peace, and realizing Nigeria’s full potential through the government’s vision and policies.
