Prominent figures including President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Afenifere leader Chief Reuben Fasoranti are slated to grace the upcoming Yoruba National Day lecture in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Comrade Awa Bamiji, the President-general of the Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, revealed to journalists that this year’s event would commemorate the 85th birthday of esteemed elder statesman and veteran actor Chief Lere Paimo, popularly known as Eda Onileola.
The lecture, titled “National Unity and Agitation for Self-Determination: The Way Forward for Nigeria,” will be delivered by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, according to Bamiji.
Arc Bamidele Samson, Chairman of BOVAS Group, has been appointed as the chairman of the event, with Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede (JMK) serving as vice chairman.
Distinguished guests expected to attend include President Bola Tinubu (GCFR) and Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while the South West governors will be guests of honour. Special guests will include speakers from the South West Houses of Assembly.
Notable figures designated as fathers of the day include Afenifere leaders Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, General Alani Akinrinade (rtd), Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Dr Kunle Olajide, and Hon Wale Osun.
Bamiji emphasized that formal consultations had been concluded prior to the approval of the Lagos State House of Assembly to celebrate Yoruba week in the state, underscoring the significance of the event in fostering unity and dialogue within the Yoruba community.
