President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu as the new chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), succeeding retired Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. The statement, titled “President Tinubu Appoints New Leadership for Police Service Commission and Nigerian Police Trust Fund,” also detailed other key appointments.
President Tinubu appointed Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu as a member of the commission. These appointments are pending Senate confirmation, with additional members of the Police Service Commission to be appointed soon.
In addition, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu has been appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, effective immediately.
“The President expects an absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall well-being of the Nigeria Police and the nation,” Ngelale stated.
In related news, the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and official spokesperson for the President, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, expressed his commitment to achieving the mandate of his role. This was during a courtesy visit by the new leadership team of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), led by its Director-General, Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe, who briefed him on plans for organizational optimization.
