Lagos, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu has joined the management and staff of The Nation newspaper in expressing sorrow over the death of their Assistant Editor, Evelyn Osagie, who passed away last Sunday at age 49 following a brief illness.
Through a statement by his spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President described Osagie’s passing as a deeply saddening loss and praised her as one of the most talented, creative, and dedicated journalists in the arts and culture sector at The Nation.
Osagie was widely known for her extensive coverage of the arts, culture, and women’s issues. Besides her journalism career, she was a consummate poet with influence across literary and cultural circles, a spirit celebrated by Tinubu.
The President offered prayers for Osagie’s peaceful repose and strength for her family, colleagues at The Nation, and others in the journalism community affected by the loss.
Osagie’s career was marked by passion and excellence; she championed cultural advocacy and social issues and earned numerous awards, including the Nigeria Media Merit Award for Female Reporter of the Year in 2015. Her legacy extends beyond journalism to poetry and cultural activism, inspiring many within Nigeria’s creative landscape.
