President Bola Tinubu is in discussions with the leadership of organized labour to resolve ongoing issues regarding the National Minimum Wage.
A meeting was held on July 10 after the tripartite committee, established by the President to negotiate with labour, failed to reach an agreement.
The government is proposing a National Minimum Wage of ₦62,000, while labour unions are insisting on ₦250,000.
President Tinubu has argued that the labour’s demand is unrealistic given the country’s current economic conditions. However, labour representatives counter that the government’s proposal does not account for the inflationary pressures affecting workers.
Following last week’s inconclusive meeting, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that today’s meeting aims to finalize an agreement. The resulting draft will be submitted to the National Assembly for legislative action.
