Paris, France — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation through a strategic partnership with Google, aimed at positioning the country as a leading technology hub in Africa.
The announcement came after President Tinubu met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai and his team in Paris, alongside Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
The discussions focused on leveraging AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure to drive Nigeria’s economic diversification, enhance technological innovation, and boost global competitiveness.
President Tinubu emphasized that the partnership aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes industrialization, digital transformation, and economic growth. He highlighted Nigeria’s potential to lead in AI-driven research, cloud adoption, and workforce digital upskilling.
“This collaboration is a significant step in positioning Nigeria at the forefront of global digital innovation,” Tinubu stated.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation, noting the country’s vast potential to emerge as an AI powerhouse in Africa.
“Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to shape the future of AI and digital innovation on the continent. We are excited to deepen our engagement with the Nigerian government to foster economic growth through technology,” Pichai said.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, described the partnership as a catalyst for Nigeria’s digital economy, assuring that AI adoption will drive tangible benefits for businesses and citizens alike.
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will oversee the collaboration, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will coordinate private sector engagement to ensure nationwide impact.
With discussions set to continue, both parties are committed to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation, strengthening AI-driven innovation, and paving the way for sustainable economic advancement.
